Foundation Degree (FdA) - Supporting Learning: Sport, P.E. And Health

Who is this course for?
Professionals such as teaching assistants, learning support staff, community coaches, health workers and others working with children from 3-16 years old in curriculum PE or PSHE, or in extra-curricular settings.

What does this course cover?
Underpinning knowledge, which enables students to understand about the ways in which children learn (3-16) and how that learning can be supported and enhanced.  Students link educational theory and relevant practices through a range of work-based tasks and study.  Six of the twelve modules focus specifically on physical activity and health issues.  Reflective practice and appropriate professional values are promoted alongside opportunities for students to develop their autonomy as independent learners including key and transferable learning skills which are relevant to the programme and to the demands of personal and professional living within and beyond the College community.

Foundation Degree in Supporting Learning: Sport, PE and Health (240 credits)
Certificate of Higher Education in Supporting Learning: Sport, PE and Health (120 credits)
Certificate in Physical Activity and Health in Schools (40 credits)
Certificate in Physical Activity, Games and Athletics (40 credits)
Certificate in Organising Sport and Health Activities (40 credits)
Certificate in Games and Athletics, Gym and Dance (40 credits)
Single Accredited module from the FDSL programme (20 credits)

Entry Requirementsfor Award-bearing programmes
GCSE grade A-C English or Adult Literacy Level 2
Level 3 qualification. Alternatively, applicants may submit a mature entry essay of 2000 words.
Relevant workplace experience and support of employer.

FdA Study routes

1. Full time programme (240 credits), part time attendance (1 session per week)
• Supports the development of study skills alongside a personal development plan.
• Can form the basis for work-based progression to an honours degree
• The full programme starts in September.
• Attendance is half a day (1.30 – 7pm) per week.
• The normal study period for the full 12-module part-time work-based Foundation Degree
    is 2 years though this can be extended to 3 or 4 years.

2. Continuing Professional Development route
Choose individual modules or groups of modules as CPD training. Assessment/accreditation is optional.
Bespoke training
Modules or groups of modules may be delivered as CPD for employers– minimum 12 participants (venue negotiable). Where viable groups are formed, alternative stand-alone modules may be developed for employers in order to meet specific training needs.
