Competition Managers

In 2008-09, 43% of young people aged 5-16 participated in inter-school competition in West Yorkshire.

Competition Managers are working with national governing bodies (NGBs) and national and local schools associations on the implementation of the national competition frameworks.  The main aims are:

  1. to increase the number of young people engaged in regular competitive opportunities
  2. to create a step change in content, structure and presentation of competitive opportunities for young people of school age by modernising competition structures

The National Competition Framework is in principle a 'good practice' model for the delivery of competitive sport for young people. The Framework has been developed jointly by the Youth Sport Trust and Sport England collaboratively with a wide range of National Governing Bodies of Sport (NGBs) and School Sport Associations.

16 sports have presented their frameworks to a National Competition Review Panel and to date the following sports have been approved: Athletics, Badminton, Basketball, Cricket, Fencing, Gymnastics, Hockey, Netball, Rugby League, Rugby Union, Swimming, Table-Tennis, Tennis, and Volleyball.

Each of these sports has identified national priority competitions and it is the role of Competition Managers to co-ordinate the local delivery of these competitions.
