Countryside Walks Reveal Local History

Discover some of the most beautiful areas of Kirklees and learn some of the local history in two walks organised by the Kirklees Countryside Unit as part of the South Pennines Walk and Ride Festival 2008.

The first is on Wednesday, September 17, around country lanes, fields and higher woodlands around Scissett and Clayton West.  Walkers should meet at 10am in the car park in front of the school and church on Wakefield Road (A636), Scissett.

The walk is eight and a half miles long and of medium difficulty.  It will take around five hours to complete.

The second walk will be on Thursday, September 25, starting from Denby Dale train station at 10am.  The seven mile, medium walk will follow old pack horse trails, country lanes and meadows to reach some fascinating ancient buildings.  It will take around four and a half hours to complete.

Both walks are free and will be led by Kirklees Countryside volunteer Gabrielle Bassett. For further information, telephone 01484 540999.

Walking gear, lunch and drinks are required for both walks which are also part of the 'Wild About Countryside in Kirklees' programme of events.
