New MEND course starting soon in Batley and Huddersfield

A new free course aimed at helping children to adopt a healthy lifestyle is starting soon in Batley and Huddersfield.

Batley
The MEND (Mind, Exercise, Nutrition…Do it!) course is for children aged 7-13 years and is being held at Batley Baths, Cambridge Street, Batley, starting after the schools’ Spring Bank half-term holiday.

There will be twice-weekly sessions, delivered by specially-trained health and fitness professionals, to help children become fitter, healthier and happier.

The first sessions are on Wednesday, June 10, 4.30pm-6.30pm, and Friday, June 12, 4pm-6pm. The course will run for 10 weeks and participants, and parents/carers, must be able to attend all sessions.

Huddersfield
The MEND course is for children aged 7-13 years and is being held at Huddersfield Sports Centre, Southgate, Huddersfield, and at Christchurch Woodhouse Junior School, Deighton Road, Huddersfield. It starts after the schools’ Spring Bank half-term holiday.

There will be twice-weekly sessions, delivered by specially-trained health and fitness professionals, to help children become fitter, healthier and happier.

The first week’s sessions are on Tuesday, June 9, at Huddersfield Sports Centre, 6pm-8pm, and on Thursday, June 11, at Christchurch Woodhouse Junior School, 4.30pm-6.30pm. The course will run at these venues for 10 weeks and participants, and parents/carers, must be able to attend all sessions.

As well as fun activities, there will be advice sessions giving practical advice and tips on making healthier choices.

New courses are also starting the same week in Dewsbury and Huddersfield.

The Kirklees MEND programme is run by Kirklees Culture and Leisure Services in partnership with NHS Kirklees and is part of a national initiative launched in 2004.
