Angling Open Day @ Standedge - July 12

2nd July 2009

On Sunday 12 July, the West Yorkshire Angling Action Group, in association with the Angling Trust, British Waterways and Environment Agency will be running an Angling Open Day to provide an opportunity to try fishing in a safe, fun and relaxed environment at Standedge Tunnel & Visitor Centre.

Qualified coaches will be on hand to help visitors take their first steps in to angling, providing guidance in everything from tackle set up through to the best methods to catch fish. There will be fly casting demonstrations and other angling based activities, as well as activities for all the family.

Daniel Ramm of the Angling Trust explains: “The activity will take place from 10:00am on Sunday and coaches and club representatives will be on hand to give advice and field questions about getting started in fishing through accessing local waters and how to continue it as a sporting interest.”

James Dean, visitor services manager for Standedge Tunnel & Visitor Centre said: “We’re excited to host our first angling open day here at Standedge as it’s a great way of encouraging people into the sport. The Huddersfield Narrow Canal provides a fantastic setting for the event, so we hope as many people can join us and have a go themselves and see if they can get their first catch!”.
