Biggest U-9s cricket competition begins in Leeds

Hundreds of schoolchildren in Leeds begin playing in the country’s biggest under-9s cricket competition this week.

14 schools from the Morley area are in the first round of the Drax Cup 2008 with a chance to play in the finals at Headingley Carnegie Stadium in June.

The festival-style mini-tournament involves mixed teams of eight boys and girls playing a series of matches plus specialist coaching by The Yorkshire Cricket Board.

A total of 270 schools from across Yorkshire are taking part in The Drax Cup 2008 which is sponsored by Drax Power Limited and organised by The Yorkshire County Cricket Club in conjunction with The Yorkshire Cricket Board and The Yorkshire Schools’ Cricket Association.
