Ecotherapy and the green agenda for mental health conferences

There has been a recent surge of interest in raising awareness of the benefits of participating in mainstream community activity, particularly sports, employment and the arts for people with mental health problems and we are currently running two conferences to reflect that.

Sport England aims to advise, invest and promote community sport to create an active nation. I hope you may be able to distribute flyers to your contacts in this area in order to widen this awareness.

The aforementioned conference is Inclusion, Achievement and Activity - 20th May at Charlton Football Athletic Club. The conference focuses on social inclusion through sports, employment, day services and the arts.

It will highlight the experiences and journeys of people with mental health problems and the engagement with communities as central to recovery.

In addition we are running a conference, Ecotherapy and the green agenda for mental health on the 2nd June 2008 in London. This event will provide a unique forum for examining the evidence on the mental health benefits of ‘ecotherapy’ and ‘green exercise’ – getting outdoors and getting active in a green environment as a way of boosting mental well being.
