Outdoor Adventure Week smashes event target
12th May 2009
This year’s Outdoor Adventure Week is set for success as it exceeds target of 5,000 events UK-wide.
Supported by adventurist Ray Mears, this year’s Outdoor Adventure Week takes place from 16-23 May 2009 at venues across the UK.
The events range from huge national, to small local activities. Brathay Hall Trust, the national youth charity is hosting ten in ten marathons – ten marathons in ten days for the experienced, with others running the distance around Lake Windemere, England’s largest natural lake in the heart of the Lack District National Park.
Ian Lewis, coordinator for Campaign for Adventure on behalf of the English Outdoor Council said: “Outdoor Adventure Week was launched in 2008 to celebrate and promote being in the outdoors.
“Not only does it provide fun for all, outdoor adventure can help people’s confidence and self esteem, alongside other personal and social skills.
“We are delighted that there will be over 5,000 events taking place around the country, it just goes to show that people are excited and enthused by being in the outdoors and the benefits it can bring.”
The Week is encouraging everyone from organised clubs to families to get involved and experience the outdoors.
Ian continues: “We’ve attracted all kinds of interest this year, for example we’ve got Clubs for Young People holding their annual 100 mile canoe test, with around 140 young people paddling 100 miles in canoes and kayaks, and then we have a family from West Sussex travelling along the course of the Arun River.
“We wanted to go bigger and better than last year and I really believe we’ll achieve that, it’s going to be a fantastic week of events.”
