WYSP Conference and Dinner
Leading the Way - The Skills Challenge for the Sports Sector to 2012 and Beyond.
The second annual West Yorkshire Sports Partnership Conference and Dinner will take place on Wednesday, 3rd December 2008 at Headingley Carnegie Stadium.
Following the 2008 Olympics, Beijing has handed over the baton of organising and delivering the next Olympic and Paralympic Games in 2012 to London. This is a fantastic opportunity for sport, not just in London but across the UK.
One of the challenges for West Yorkshire is to ensure we have the professionals with the right skills to utilise the wider benefits of London 2012, to develop, build and sustain the regional sports infrastructure, and to inspire individuals and communities to make positive changes to their lives through sport and the Olympic spirit.
West Yorkshire Sport, in partnership with West Yorkshire Lifelong Learning Network, is focussing its 2008 annual conference on effective skills development.
During the day delegates will have the chance to attend a range of workshops and presentations, including a leadership workshop by Alan Davies. Alan Davies was the National Coach to England and Wales and coached Wales in the Five Nations Championship winning year of 1994. Alan has a wealth of expertise of leadership development within his role at the Telos Partnership. He will deliver an interactive and challenging workshop looking at individual aspirations and leadership alongside those of the organisation, and how we can champion the legacy programmes in West Yorkshire.
The closing address to the conference will be given by Dave Bunting MBE. Dave led an elite selection of climbers from the British Army on a groundbreaking expedition to become the first British team to climb the formidable West Ridge of Mount Everest.
After a day of inspiring and informative workshops you will be treated to a three course evening meal and after dinner speaker - Olympic High Jump Bronze Medallist Steve Smith.
