Yorkshire’s 2,012 - Bradford’s biggest ever outdoor dance
2nd July 2009
Bradford’s Centenary Square will be alive and grooving from 11.00am – 12 noon on Saturday 25 July as Yorkshire Dance invites 2,102 people from the region to join in
Yorkshire’s 2, 012 - a celebration of Yorkshire’s Olympic hopes for 2012, as part of Step Up Bradford’s action-packed weekend of city-centre activities.
Yorkshire Dance asked star choreographer Luca Silvestrini to create a simple dance routine with fun moves, suitable for all ages, shapes, sizes and abilities, with each move inspired by an Olympic Sport. Anyone who wants to get a head start can learn the moves in advance by watching the online film at: http://www.yorkshiredance.com/yorkshires-2012.php
Speaking about the event, Wieke Eringa, Executive Director of Yorkshire Dance says:
“Luca’s dance is really fun and easy to learn and will look and feel absolutely amazing with 2,012 people dancing together in Centenary Square. No matter whether you are a first time dancer or an unstoppable mover, all you have to do is turn up, warm up, take part in a short rehearsal and go for it! There will be a safe area in the centre of the square for wheelchair users to dance in and you might just find yourself dancing alongside one Yorkshire’s own Olympic athletes.”
Vince Virr, the Bradford born dancer who has recorded the online film and will be on stage for Yorkshire’s 2,012 added:
“I had a great time filming the moves. We hope the online film will help everyone to enjoy themselves as much as possible by checking out the website and getting themselves moving before July 25. I’ll be there on the day to teach the moves and I can guarantee we’ll have a fun packed time! Everyone can do it for sure, so we’re looking forward to seeing loads of people in Centenary Square to make Yorkshire’s 2,012 something really special to kick start our Olympic dreams."
To take part either register in advance by downloading a form from www.yorkshiredance.com (or call 0113 243 8765). Or register on the day and learn the routine from scratch during the rehearsal.
