‘BARA’s Jewel’ Wins Gold At Awards Ceremony
Rugby Star, Saima Hussein won the Northern Future Leaders Award, sponsored by Leeds Metropolitan University, at the Lloyds TSB Asian Jewel Awards, held at the Palace Hotel, Manchester.
The awards, now in their sixth year, celebrate corporate, commercial and professional excellence. The Prime Minister, Gordon Brown, has described them as ‘the biggest gathering of A-list Asian entrepreneurs, and professionals in Britain’.
‘I am proud to be the Prime Minister of a multicultural Britain. I strongly believe that Britain’s diversity and experiences have brought tremendous strengths and benefits to our society. The Asian Jewel Awards are an important and unique initiative and play a very significant role in helping appreciate and celebrate this diversity’.
Saima who has represented Yorkshire and has been included in the GB women’s rugby league squad, commented,’I am delighted to receive this award and I would like to pay tribute to my mother who has been very supportive throughout my career and a special mention to Leeds Metropolitan University who have provided me with invaluable support’.
The event will be televised on Star Television on the 18th May providing a world –wide showcase of Asian talent and success Khald Darr, Chairman of Carter Anderson & Chair of the Asian Jewel Awards added, ‘The Asian Jewel Awards are, without doubt, the biggest celebration of Asian success and achievement ever seen in Britain.

BARA Managing Director, Ikram Butt who recently received notable recognition himself in the Asian Power 100 Future Leaders Award is a member of the panel of judges at the Jewel Awards added, ‘Saima is an inspirational women who shows great tenacity, spirit and talent both as a rugby player and as a sports development officer working to provide opportunities for a greater access to sport and rugby in particularly in Yorkshire.
