The City of Leeds YMCA passes GymMark
The City of Leeds YMCA has recently been informed that they are one of the first 400 clubs to achieve GymMark nationally and one of only 25 Gymnastic clubs in Yorkshire who have achieved this award. The GymMark Plaque was presented by Gabby Logan at the annual Sports Leeds Seminar at John Charles Centre for Sport. Gabby herself is a well known broadcaster and presenter, and also represented her country in 1990 at the Commonwealth games in the Rhythmic Gymnastic Discipline.
This means that we are officially recognised as providing a safe, effective and child-friendly environment in our club. It recognises the value and commitment made by Leeds YMCA in developing high quality and providing a welcoming environment for its members. Registered members will now be invited to local and regional competitions. The YMCA will also be accredited with Sport England’s ClubMark status.
Amy Latimer, the Physical Activity Development Worker for the YMCA said “Gymnastics at Leeds YMCA has developed city wide since November 2004 and currently has 170+ members across the 3 branches, Hawksworth Wood, Osmondthorpe and Lawnswood, its great!”
The City of Leeds YMCA provides General gymnastic and Sport Acrobatics for all ages and genders. Pamela Ward’s son Oliver, has been involved since 2006 and she says “Oliver loves going to Leeds YMCA, so far he has gained four badges and certificates and has increased his confidence level”.
Leeds YMCA is currently developing its plans to set up ‘Gymnique’. This is a family gymnastics based session targeting pre-school children aged 2 – 4 years old, using soft play, music and games.
