Golden girl supports M:AK

Double Olympic gold medal winner Kelly Holmes was a surprise visitor to ‘Mission: Active Kirklees’.

She was swamped by children and camera crews when she arrived by helicopter at Leeds Road Playing Fields, during the last of four weeks of schools’ activities run in partnership by the Physical Activity Development team, the Kirklees Schools Sports Partnership, Kirklees Active Leisure and NHS Kirklees.

Kelly, who won gold in the 800m and 1500m in the Athens Olympics in 2004, chatted to youngsters taking part in ‘M:AK’. She even tried some of the activities - and, judging by her face in the picture opposite, she found it easier winning gold!

‘M:AK’ aims to encourage children to become more active and healthy. The activities were open to all Year 4 primary school children in Kirklees.
