Kirklees joint Best in UK

11th March 2010

The physical activity and sports development strand of Kirklees Culture and Leisure Services has been awarded the highest ever score in a Quest assessment.

Quest is the recognised quality standard scheme for the United Kingdom’s sports and leisure industry, both private and public. It measures all aspects of management, development and delivery through biennial assessments.

Following an assessment earlier this year, Kirklees has received an overall score of 97%, a score matched by Oldham Council's sports development section, making them joint top in the country.

“This is our sixth Quest assessment and we have consistently improved our score. We should be proud not only because we are continuing to raise our own levels but also because our performance is helping to drive up standards elsewhere in the country. We were clear leaders in Quest two years ago and, even though we have increased our score by 1%, we are now sharing the top spot.  That kind of close competition can only benefit the quality and delivery of sport and leisure in the United Kingdom,” said David Morby, Assistant Head of Service (Leisure Development), Kirklees Culture and Leisure Services.

The assessor's report said that the Kirklees team had strong management and leadership and had a very clear understanding of how it needed to develop to meet future customer needs. It said that team members were enthusiastic and creative.

Nigel Harrison, Director of West Yorkshire Sport offered his congratulations: "To achieve anything over 90% is a great achevement, and shows that there is a fundamental commitment to mantaining the highest of standards. We received a rating of 95% last year and appreciate how much work goes into maintaing such a level."
