Kirklees Junior Schools Open Athletics Championships

Youngsters can compete in track and field events in the Kirklees Junior Schools Open Athletics Championships being held at Leeds Road Sports Complex, Huddersfield, on Saturday, July 4.

The event, being held under the Kirklees Youth Games umbrella, is mainly for fun and is open to youngsters from school years 3, 4, 5 and 6. It will run from 12noon to 3pm.

On the track Yr3s will compete in 60m, 150m and 600m; Yr4s will race over 75m, 150m and 600m; Yr5s will compete in 80m, 150m and 600m and Y6s will race over 100m, 200m and 800m.

In the field events, all the age groups will compete at long jump, in addition years 4, 5 and 6 will do the javelin and years 5 and 6 will also compete at high jump.

Youngsters can compete in a maximum of three events. Medals will be awarded to the top three in each event and all participants will receive a certificate.

There are no entry fees due to a £1,000 award from Norwich Union. However, any donations will go to the Kirklees Sporting Legends Fund.
