Open afternoon fun at Leeds sailing and activity centre

13th August 2009

The second come and try day of the year took place at Leeds sailing and activity centre on 31st July, with approximately 100 young people aged 10-16 years taking part in a range of outdoor activities. Qualified coaches from the sailing centre along with NGB officers from British Canoeing (BCU) and British Cycling(BC) who delivered the activities.

These included sailing, canoeing, raft building, off road biking and kayaking, with participants having a go in either one or two activities.

The event was part of a larger outdoor activity project aimed at getting more young people from the Outer North West Leeds area into sport and physical activity, whilst at the same time raising awareness of what Leeds sailing and activity centre has to offer to the people of Leeds and other areas across the Yorkshire region.

Other programmes on offer as part of the larger project include after school girls canoeing, parent and child kayaking, school package days, holiday canoe & kayak sessions and sailing for disabled youngsters.

The project has been funded through the Outer North West Area Committee.
