Spen Valley Year 5 Olympic Team Challenge

Spen Valley hosted a Year 5 transition day in the form of an Olympic team challenge on the 19th May; All feeder schools were invited to send all their year 5’s which meant a healthy quantity of 232 children in total were catered for.
The participants were divided up into 20 teams, were all allocated an Olympic nation to compete under, and all were ‘’managed’’ by a young leader from the college. There were 10 activities where the teams would all undertake and score points, which would then be accumulated to give overall finishing positions. These activities included tri-golf, marathon, run around tennis, cricket wicket challenge, tennis rugby, football challenge, rugby try scoring. target frisbee, speed bounce and obstacle relay.
Despite unkind conditions (wet and miserable), the event went particularly well with all participants benefiting and enjoying.
The winning nation (gold) on the day were Poland with 486 points, managed by Nathan Gomersal.
In second place (silver) were Denmark with 455 points and managed by Elliott Heatley.
In third place (bronze) were Brazil with 430 points and managed by Rhiannon Howarth,

Many congratulations also to the 20+ Spen Valley Leaders who over the course of the year have matured and developed into their sports leaders roles and who are now proving to be an excellent team and an invaluable asset to the Spen Valley School Sports Partnership.
