Leeds Sports Hall Athletics Challenge 2010

Cup Winners - Woodlesford

In October 2009, Schools from across the whole of Leeds entered the Leeds Primary Schools Sports Hall Athletics Challenge. Competing in local heats organised by the 5 School Sports Partnerships, the schools fought through to their Partnership Final, where 2 teams each went through to the City Semi Finals. From the Semi Finals, six made it to the final, but of course there could be only one winner.  Many of the schools expected to reach the final were present, including previous Champions Woodlesford going for their 4th title and Chapel Allerton.

Every team got off to a flying start the Boys field events with no clear school winning each event. Whilst in the Girls track events Chapel Allerton, Geledhow and Woodlesford were fighting for first place in each race.  At half time it was all to play for as there was 10 points between 1st and 3rd place, with Woodlesford leading.

In the second half, Westerton and Menston gave the other four teams a run for their money in the boys track events.  Whilst in the field events all 6 schools remained to battle it out for the points. Woodleford were triumphant winning the title for the fourth time, although it was clear that athletes from all schools deserved congratulating on producing a final of extremely high quality.

The final scores ended as:
Woodlesford - 140pts
Gledhow - 127pts
Chapel Allerton - 117pts
Menston - 88pts
Rawdon St Peters - 84pts
Westerton - 76pts

Woodlesford will now go through to represent Leeds at the West Yorkshire Final!

Plate Winners - Ninelands!

In conjunction with the Cup Final, the Plate Final was held involving schools who'd been knocked out in the first round of the Cup.  Just as competitive as the Cup Final, it was a hard fought contest with Strawberry Fields wanting to retain their title.  At half time Strawberry Fields were leading with 67 pts with St Marys, Ninelands and St Pauls following closely behind.

In the second half Ninelands and St Marys came back fighting against Strawberry Fields with Westbrook Lane, St Josephs and St Pauls fighting between themselves. Everything can change in the second half, and it was evident in the Plate final as Ninelands storming back to win the Plate.

Final Scores:
Ninelands - 138pts
St Marys - 129pts
Strawberry Fields - 122pts
St Pauls - 115pts
St Josephs - 77pts
Westbrook Lane - 53pts
