What is multi-skills?

There are four basic principles of activity

  • thinking
  • coordination
  • movement
  • body awareness

Activities are based on skill development including: games based on running, striking, catching, leaping, kicking, power, strength, agility, balance and hand/eye coordination.

The Principles of Multi-Skills Clubs

  • fully exclusive
  • positioned at the FUNdamentals stage of LTAD
  • the development of core physical skills
  • relationship with the national Curriculum up to KS3
  • acquisition and mastery of generic skills useful for all activity
  • helping children understand the benefits of activity
  • helping children discover their potential
  • support and complement the NGB club structures
  • building a bridge to local sports clubs

Who, where and when?

  • open access
  • focus on 7-11 year olds
  • proposed 800 clubs by 2006
  • Venues - flexible, school, sports clubs, leisure centres
  • delivered by teachers, NGB level 2 coaches and above and Community Sports Coaches

Multi-skill Clubs - key outcomes

Develop the FUNdamental movement skills and sports skills of young people in order that they can progree into the sport of thier choice.
