Gaelic Games

20th February 2009

Gaelic Football and Hurling are summer sports that combine the skills of football, rugby, hockey and basketball. Players can use both their hands and feet and can score by putting the ball either over or under the crossbar. As well as requiring high levels of skill both sports requires good levels of physical fitness and helps participants to work on both individual and team skills.

There are currently 7 senior sides that compete in the West Yorkshire area and a number of youth sides for both boys and girls that compete in both local and national competitions.

2008 saw the appointment of a GAA Community Development Administrator to both promote and sustain Gaelic Games in Yorkshire and a successful and expanding schools coaching programme has already been established across Leeds and Huddersfield.

There are also various coach education programmes available to members and volunteers.
